Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor and journalist for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up with her family in New York City, Mitchell graduated with a BA degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career as a journalist with KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV situated in Washington DC (then WTOP). She then became a Washington general reporter for NBC News two years later. The first time she covered the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office within the year 1988. She was named Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief of the Foreign Affairs department at NBC News. Mitchell has been as a guest on TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist as well as host. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the 1988 debate among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005, which was awarded by the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first reported on at the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Mitchell reported on a variety of interesting stories including the Iran-contra scandal and tax reform. She traveled with Ronald Reagan throughout his numerous trips to world summits and reported frequently.
